Frequently Asked Questions

What does DiskForge do?

DiskForge scans your Mac's home directory and identifies files and folders that consume the most disk space. It categorizes them into 11 meaningful groups (like Caches, Xcode data, Docker images, LLM models, etc.) and lets you safely clean up what you no longer need.

Is it safe to use DiskForge for cleanup?

Yes. All cleanup operations use the macOS Trash, meaning every deletion is fully reversible. Just open your Trash to restore anything you've removed. Additionally, every category has a safety indicator (Safe, Caution, Risky) to help you decide what to remove.

Why does DiskForge need Full Disk Access?

macOS restricts apps from reading certain directories (like Application Support, Caches inside ~/Library, etc.) without explicit permission. Full Disk Access allows DiskForge to scan all relevant directories in your home folder and provide accurate results. Without it, scan results will be limited.

How do I grant Full Disk Access?

Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, then toggle DiskForge on. You may need to restart the app after granting access.

Does DiskForge collect any data?

No. DiskForge makes zero network requests. It does not collect any analytics, telemetry, crash reports, or personal data. Everything stays on your Mac. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What macOS versions are supported?

DiskForge requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later. It runs natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.

Can I recover files after cleanup?

Yes! DiskForge moves cleaned files to the macOS Trash. You can restore them anytime before you empty the Trash.

What are the scan presets?

  • Quick Cleanup — Scans Caches, Logs, and Trash (safest items only)
  • Developer — Scans 8 categories relevant to developers including Xcode data, Docker, and LLM models
  • Full Scan — Scans all 11 categories for the most thorough analysis

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Please send a detailed description of the issue to info@reactive.cz. Include your macOS version, what you were doing when the issue occurred, and any error messages you saw.

Is DiskForge available in my language?

DiskForge is available in 20 languages: English, Czech, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Slovak, Swedish, Danish, Turkish, Ukrainian, Chinese (Simplified), and Chinese (Traditional).

System Requirements

  • macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later
  • Apple Silicon or Intel Mac
  • Full Disk Access permission (recommended for best results)
